Pioneering Technology's Patented Safe-T-element Cooking System is the Only Technology Available Today that Controls High End Heat on Electric Coil Ranges
Union City, GA and Mississauga, ON - (November 2, 2012) - Pioneering Technology Corp. (TSX-V: PTE; OTC BB: PTEFF), ("Pioneering"), an energy smart product innovation/consumer goods company and North America's leader in cooking fire prevention technology, announced today that Union City is the first municipality in the State of Georgia and the most recent City in North America to pass an ordinance (law) requiring "high end heat limiting technology" for electric coiled cooking devices (ranges, cook tops and hot plates).
The ordinance states that as of September 18, 2012, all electric coil cooking devices purchased for the purpose of replacement in existing buildings and for installation in any new buildings (includes ALL apartment buildings, nursing homes, tax supported housing and facilities used for residential board and care occupancy) must include "high end heat limiting technology" as standard equipment and that by December 31, 2016 all electric coiled devices in these buildings must include this technology.
Union City is the first municipality in Georgia to mandate devices that will control the high end temperature of electric coiled burners helping to prevent stovetop cooking fires (the number one cause of household fire in the U.S. - 44% of all fires according to the NFPA) and the ignition of most common household materials.
Effective immediately, Union City Fire Marshal Larry Knowles said, "all new multi-family and most high risk dwellings in Union City will be required to have this technology as part of the permitting process". Union City is the first municipality in the state to pass such an ordinance (while multi-family homes fall under the state fire marshal's jurisdiction) which makes laws such as this one allowable, private single-family homes do not.
Knowles said the fire department will still be encouraging single-family homes to use the technology. He also said the fire department plans to reach out to other municipalities to encourage a similar ordinance.
Pioneering's patented Safe-T-element cooking system is the only technology available today that provides high end heat control and a track record of success helping to prevent stove top cooking fires while also saving energy. Available on new ranges or as a retrofit, this technology has been installed on over 75,000 ranges in multi-residential housing units throughout North America and on military bases around the world.
Fire Chief Don Leasher expects big things from the devices, "here in Union City, we pride ourselves on being the safest city in South Fulton. And hopefully we're going to reduce our fires in the city by 50% or better. This technology gives us another tool, along with sprinkler systems and fire extinguishers (already mandated in most multi-unit housing) to help better protect our citizens and firefighters. While most of our tools are suppression driven, this technology helps us stop most fires from starting in the first place".
Pioneering CEO Kevin Callahan said of the ordinance, "this is but another example of the fire service taking the lead in an effort to better protect their communities and their rank and file when the appliance industry will not. The Union City FD in partnership with the Mayor, Counsel and the men and woman who serve the Union City community are demonstrating the kind of leadership for other municipalities across the U.S. to follow and we are very proud to play a small part".
