QUEBEC CITY, May 16 /CNW Telbec/ - The CO2 Solution team, which had been
working on the CO2 reduction project for the Quebec City incinerator since
fall 2004, ended its first 24-hour, 7-day a week continuous testing campaign
last April 11. Preliminary analyses show that several objectives have been
achieved, including the transformation of a significant amount of the CO2
released by one of the chimneys, into calcium carbonate, an environmentally
safe product.
Discussions have already been initiated to define the steps of the second
phase. In fact, within the framework of the project to upgrade the Quebec City
incinerator, the city expressed the wish to keep on considering the
possibility of reducing the CO2 emissions released by the incinerator's
chimneys. The final report will be submitted to the environment service of the
City of Quebec which will take note of it before submitting a report to the
executive committee. The latter will then be able to make the decision which
will seem suitable for the continuation of work.
This project was made possible by the collaboration of the City of Quebec
and the financial contribution of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities
through the Fonds d'habilitation municipal vert ("green" municipal housing
fund) and the ministGere de l'Environnement du QuDebec (Quebec Environment
Department).
