Takes home $5,000 in Tim Hortons' Tim Cards ®

OAKVILLE, ON, Dec. 5, 2011 /CNW/ - Joseph Mitchell's special childhood memories spent with his father at Tim Hortons, won him $5,000 in the Share a Moment, Share a Coffee contest, to spend sharing more special moments over a cup of Tim Hortons coffee.  Mitchell, a father of three girls from Halifax, Nova Scotia was awarded his prize last week.

"Tim Hortons was, for us, a sacred place; a place where father and son memories were formed, where hard work together was celebrated," Mitchell wrote in his submission. "It was in these moments around Tim's coffee and doughnuts that I felt Dad's loving eyes fixed upon me. No distractions. Just Dad and me. It was in these moments that my self-worth soared. I could do anything in the world because my father believed in me."

Mitchell, who now works as a youth pastor with children from the largest public housing community in Halifax, has devoted his life to passing on the love he shared with his father to children who have not been as fortunate.

"Winning this contest means that I now have the means to share quality moments with dozens of young people in my community," said Mitchell. "The beautiful, mentorship moments I had with Dad have multiplied a hundredfold."

In September, Tim Hortons invited guests to tell their coffee stories online in the Share a Moment, Share a Coffee contest.  Favourite memories, moments and funny stories were submitted at everycup.ca/shareamomentcontest, through text, pictures, videos, even webcam, as well as on the Tim Hortons Facebook page at facebook.com/TimHortons

Ten finalists were selected by Tim Hortons and Mitchell was chosen as the grand prize winner through an online vote.

"Thousands of amazing stories were submitted by Tim Hortons fans across the country.  It was a tough job to choose just 10 finalists," said Glenn Hollis, VP Brand Marketing and Advertising, Tim Hortons. "Joseph Mitchell's recollection of his special memories with his father over Tim Hortons coffee and doughnuts was heartwarming and easy to relate to.  We are so happy to hear he is continuing that tradition with his family and with the many deserving children he works with."
