Seven military and government sponsors secure Route1's participation in annual Joint Chief-of-Staff's event TORONTO, Nov. 21 /CNW/ - Following its participation in the Initial Planning Conference (IPC) for CWID 2007 (Coalition Warfighter Interoperability Demonstration) that took place in Virginia Beach, VA last week, Route1 Inc.(TM) (TSX-V:ROI) today announced an interoperability trial for its custom, military-focused MobiKEY IBAD and DEFIMNET solutions. The trial will take place at CWID 2007, to be held June 11-22, 2007 across multiple global sites. CWID is the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff's annual event enabling US Combatant Commands (COCOMs) and the international community to investigate new and emerging technologies, including command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C4ISR) solutions that focus on relevant and timely objectives for enhancing coalition interoperability. US Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM), on behalf of the Chairman, is responsible for the oversight of CWID. The intent of CWID is to investigate C4ISR technologies capable of being placed into an operational environment within 12-18 months following the execution period. MobiKEY IBAD (Identity Based Access Device) is based on Route1's popular MobiKEY commercial product; while DEFIMNET (DEFense Identity Management NETwork), a communication and service delivery platform focused on identity management and entitlement-based access to resources, is a derivative of Route1 MobiNET. Unlike its commercial variant, DEFIMNET is aimed at operation within classified domains. "The IBAD's inherent security features combined with its ease-of-use could make it a great weapon in the Department of Defense's (DOD) arsenal. It is of equally great interest to us for Homeland Defense applications," said Chris Lambert, USNORTHCOM, CWID Program Manager. "The IBAD could provide us with superior capabilities to gain strategic advantages over the enemy. NORTHCOM is excited to be demonstrating the IBAD's potential during CWID." "DEFIMNET is a clear reflection of the Defense Information Systems Agency's (DISA) most recent move to an acquisition strategy highly focused on a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and pay-per-use services," said Jerry Iwanski, CTO and Senior Vice President of Product Strategy at Route1. "The vision behind the development of Route1's products and technologies resonated through the IPC. The foundation of DEFIMNET is information assurance through identity management and strong encryption, combined with entitlement based communication and access to resources such as C4ISR systems from anywhere and at anytime. Our technologies can improve the situational awareness and collaboration of the strategic and tactical commands and increase the lethality of in-theater units. When assessed in the context of DISA's new paradigm, I believe DEFIMNET's service delivery model is well positioned to meet such objectives." Iwanski continued, "While the IBAD is our first offering geared at the defense sector, a number of other products will leverage the capabilities of the DEFIMNET, particularly in the areas of cross-domain information access and communications over ad-hoc meshed networks." The CWID Senior Management Group (SMG), together with the coalition partners, selects Interoperability Trial proposals to satisfy CWID's need to share and exchange critical, time-sensitive information between military organizations, international coalitions and civilian agencies. The selection criteria include how well the Interoperability Trial's proposal satisfies one or more of the stated objectives and sub-objectives as defined in the Federal Business Opportunities announcement (http://199.57.1.137/public/CWID07-Additional-FBO-information-26Apr06v2.doc). In a rare outcome of events, Route1 has secured not one sponsorship, but seven of them, including: DND JIIFC-Det (Joint Information Intelligence and Fusion Capability Detachment), US Northern Command (USNORTHCOM), Canada Command, US Marine Corps, US Air Force, Navy Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) and Royal New Zealand Air Force. "We are thrilled to be sponsoring the Route1 DEFIMNET and the MobiKEY IBAD trial," said Major Peter Lipohar, JIIFC-Det. "It was refreshing for us to witness the tremendous response and interest from all US military branches to sponsor Route1 to demonstrate the IBAD's capabilities." Route1's trial will focus on two key objectives. The first one is Integrated Operations: enhance the commander's capability to command, control and coordinate across joint and coalition forces, government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGO), and first responders with an emphasis on improving mobility, survivability and adaptive dominance. The second one is Integrated Planning: provide solutions that improve the COCOM's ability to conduct collaborative planning with coalition partners, including joint and coalition forces, government agencies, NGOs and first responders - emphasizing technologies and processes that support collection and dissemination of Command and Control (C2) information using Net Centric Enterprise Services (NCES). "The MobiKEY IBAD addresses several challenges faced today by the coalition warfighters in the real-world theater of operations and could very well complement the Marine Corps' ability to communicate and access C4ISR systems," said Michael Cajohn, Marine Corps Support Team, Northrop Grumman. "In today's coalition information landscape, identity and security must be absolute. Conventional weapons systems are ineffective in providing adequate defenses as the battlefield moves into cyberspace," said Rene McIver, Route1's Chief Information Security Officer. "DEFIMNET, as a service-oriented model, is a new approach to providing universal identity and entitlement management, enabling consistent information assurance across commands, services, agencies, platforms and systems. There are new enemy types appearing in cyberspace, and Route1 is ready to help the military meet this challenge. Quite simply, DEFIMNET is proof that technology has evolved." FORCEnet is defined by Chief of Naval Operations' Strategic Study Group XXI as an "...operational construct and architectural framework for Naval Warfare in the Information Age which integrates warriors, sensors, networks, command and control, platforms, and weapons into a networked, distributed combat force, scalable across the spectrum of conflict from seabed to space and sea to land." Using this as an example, Iwanski explained that "DEFIMNET could provide the enabling technologies and componentized service delivery mechanisms for key aspects of constructs like FORCEnet. Entitlement-based complex event processing will become an essential element in orchestrating information dissemination and access across all assets throughout the combat landscape." Route1 has accepted invitations to demonstrate IBAD/DEFIMNET at the following sites: NORAD-USNORTHCOM: Colorado Springs, CO; Marine Corps and Army: Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Dahlgren, VA; Navy: Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR), San Diego, CA; and Air Force: Electronic Systems Center (ESC), Hanscom AFB, MA; Canadian Forces Experimentation Centre (CFEC), Shirley's Bay, ON; Joint Forces New Zealand (JFNZ): Upper Hutt, New Zealand.
