Virtual Tree of Life names Stollery Children's Hospital as recipient
TORONTO, Oct. 21, 2011 /CNW/ - Shoppers Drug Mart has awarded the third of four weekly $10,000 prizes to Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation, in Edmonton, Alberta, as part of its annual Tree of Life campaign. In celebration of the campaign's tenth anniversary, Shoppers Drug Mart has planted a virtual tree at www.shoppersdrugmart.ca with an ongoing contest to award the province raising the most funds each week.
"Thank you for this outstanding contribution to the Women & Children's Health Research Institute at Stollery Children's Hospital," said Jennifer Wood, President & CEO of the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation. "There have already been major advancements made through the research accomplished, and this support will help ensure that we are able to continue to address key challenges that truly threaten the well-being of women and their children."
At the end of each week of the four week-campaign, which ran from September 17th, 2011 to October 14th, 2011, Shoppers Drug Mart awarded $10,000 to a women's charitable organization in the province that had the highest contributions per capita, combining online and in-store donations. The beneficiary was then chosen through a random lottery.
"We are thrilled to hear that our local women's charity of choice, Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation, was selected to be the beneficiary of this incremental donation from the Tree of Life Campaign," said David Burwash, Associate Owner, Shoppers Drug Mart, Devon, Alberta. "Through the incredible support and generosity of the people in our community, we are together able to create positive change for women's health right here at home."
The Tree of Life campaign is one of the leading partnership programs of the Shoppers Drug Mart WOMEN platform - the Company's commitment to improving the health of all Canadian women in body, mind and spirit. Shoppers Drug Mart Pharmacist-owners identify and personally select the organizations in the communities they serve that will benefit from the Tree of Life program.
