GMV Minerals Inc. discovers 12 new geophysical target zones in Oko Region, Guyana

VANCOUVER, Oct. 11, 2011 /CNW/ - GMV Minerals Inc. (the "Company" or "GMV") (TSXV: GMV) is pleased to announce that it has received further detailed airborne magnetic and gamma-ray spectrometry survey data. The new data covers GMV's Oko claims in Guyana.

The airborne survey was comprised of 3,200 line-kilometres of magnetics and gamma-ray spectrometry. Enhancement filters applied to the magnetics have highlighted a number of dominant structural orientations and trends. Definite 'breaks' in the dominate NE fabric are shown by the magnetics and identified as target areas of interest. These cross-trends provide potential for significant fracturing and mobilization of mineralized fluids such as gold.

Twelve discrete zones of 'structural complexity' are identified from the magnetic analysis. The most prospective areas are those where inferred structural complexity occurs adjacent to the regions of magnetic discontinuity which themselves are indicative of regional shear zones. Gold mineralization is known to occur near major crustal breaks manifesting as large-scale shear zones, which act as conduits for mineralising fluids. Mineralization often occurs in regions of structural complexity adjacent to shear zones such as those mapped here.

Three of the 'structually complex zones' are distinguished by anomalously high gamma-ray spectrometry responses and appear to correlate directly to a mapped area of Lower Proterozoic greenstones (metasediments). These high potassium readings occur within otherwise potassium-poor metasedimentary / metavolcanic rocks, and occur along or adjacent to inferred (magnetics) fault/shear zones and may therefore indicate anomalous sericite alteration.

GMV's Oko Block is the block closest to Georgetown and an all-weather road extending west to Million Mountain and Peter's Mine transects the property. The Oko block and regional area are presently worked for alluvial gold; numerous historic workings occur in the area.

Doug Perkins, GMV's VP Exploration remarked, "The Oko area has been one where there have been a lot of local miners with significant alluvial gold recoveries. This high priority area is one which we will be examining with a 3d IP geophysical program, mapping and drilling."
