VANCOUVER, Sept. 27, 2011 /CNW/ - GMV Minerals Inc. (the "Company" or "GMV") (TSXV: GMV) is pleased to announce that it has received a detailed interpretation of its airborne geophysics on the Puruni-Mara block in Guyana. Final magnetics confirms the presence of a NW-SE linear which is interpreted to have intersected and offset the principal arcuate NE-E trending 'Puruni shear zone'. This local NW-SE linear overlays previous artisanal working and promising ground surveys conducted in the past year; it underpins the current focus of drilling. Final map and radiometric deliverables from the airborne contractor are due very shortly.
This magnetic linear extends approximately 3.25 kilometres with an extension comprising another 5 kilometre element to the northwest. Both elements are located within GMV Minerals' claim blocks. Based upon Guyana Geology Mines Commission ("GGMC") mapping the structures occur in Lower Palaeozoic greenstones. A notable NE-trending linear/fault is interpreted to intersect and disrupt the Puruni shear zone just northwest of the current drilling program, and will comprise the second area of investigation to be followed up in the current work program.
The geophysical interpretation of the entire Puruni-Mara block includes analysis of the structural complexity based on aeromagnetics; this analysis has identified an additional 10 target areas in which significant structural disruption occurs adjacent to the dominant and regional Puruni shear zone. Each newly identified structure covers a distance of 2-5 kilometres. Known mineralization at both Peter's Mine and Million Mountain have provided an excellent correlation of the analysis' results. These new discovery target areas are a priority and will be aggressively explored in 2011/2012.
In summary the NW-SE feature currently being drilled is a relatively minor structure but one which is typical of the structural controls directly associated with known Au mineralization in Guyana. The feature intersects and offsets the more regional Puruni Shear Zone; it is this intersection/offsetting characteristic in addition to the presence of artisanal gold workings which indicates its exploration significance. A 3D IP survey previously reported, followed by the current drilling program which confirms the presence of 2%-5% sulphides in situ, supports the conclusion that this target area is similar to other Guyana gold deposits. Gold deposits within the northern Guiana Shield are characterized by strong structural control; most are spatially associated with regional shear zones. Typically, the trend of major shears is not mineralized, whereas the gold prospects are localized at intersections of cross-structures and/or oblique or conjugate structures which modify or offset the main, regional trends. Douglas Perkins, GMV's Vice President, Exploration remarked "This survey has identified plenty of these cross cutting structures which are known to be gold bearing. I like what I see here as we have a plethora of targets."
Interpretation of airborne magnetics and gamma-ray spectrometry is on-going on the Aurora, Oko and Five Star - Matthews Ridge blocks; results are expected in the next few weeks.
