VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - March 7, 2006) - GREAT PANTHER RESOURCES LIMITED (TSX VENTURE:GPR) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ing. J. Jesus Rico Aguilera as General Manager of the Guanajuato Mine in Guanajuato, Mexico and of Ing. Javier Melchor Ramirez Vargas as the new General Manager of the Topia Mine in Durango, Mexico.
Ing. Rico has been General Manager at Topia for the past year and has been instrumental in bringing the mine back into production under Great Panther's control. He is a Mexican mining engineer with a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Guanajuato and almost 30 years experience in the mining industry, primarily for Penoles. During that period, he was General Manager of Operations for Penoles' Guanajuato Group, which included 8 operating mines in that district.
While holding that position, Ing. Rico was responsible for a 2,000 tonne per day processing plant and a workforce numbering 1,440 personnel. Under his leadership, production was increased at most of the mines and a new production record was set at the processing plant. Ing. Rico's proven track record and experience in the Guanajuato mining camp will be of great benefit to Great Panther as it returns the historic Valenciana, Rayas and Cata Mines to production.
Ing. Ramirez is also a graduate of the University of Guanajuato School of Mines and Metallurgy and has 30 years of experience with a variety of mining companies in Mexico. He has worked in all aspects of underground mining and milling and was, most recently, General Manager of a 300 tonne per day operation in Guerrero State, Mexico. His skills will play a vital role at Topia where Great Panther is increasing high grade silver-lead-zinc production to 200 tonnes per day.
In addition, Great Panther has appointed several key technical people at the Guanajuato Mine, including Ing. Sergio Montoya Martinez as General Superintendent, Ing. Rogelio Gallardo as Mine Superintendent, Ing. Jose Montoya Martinez as Superintendent of Planning and Control, Ing. Armando Cordero Cabrera as Superintendent of Technical Services and Ing. Miguel del Rio Torres as Superintendent of Geology. All of these individuals have extensive experience in the Guanajuato District and some have spent much of their careers at the Company's Mines with the previous owner. Their intimate knowledge of the mines will bring important continuity to Great Panther's new mine plan. The Company is currently refurbishing the 1,200 tonne per day plant and conducting drilling, sampling and mapping in order to develop an updated resource for the imminent commencement of mining.
As Great Panther brings both the Topia and Guanajuato Mines back on stream and up to full capacity through the course of 2006, this new and highly experienced technical team will play an important role in achieving the Company's goal of becoming one of the top five primary silver producers in the world. Both operations are owned 100% by Great Panther.
