VANCOUVER, Aug. 11 /CNW/ - Rare Element Resources Ltd is a special kind
of company and I'm very pleased that the Company's Board of Directors has
appointed me president and CEO. The presidency of Rare Element Resources
brings together a number of my own long-term interests and abilities. The
Company's prospects are exciting and I look forward to contributing to its
success.
Rare Element Resources offers an investment opportunity that combines the
short-term speculative value of the publicly traded resource market with the
long-term growth potential of the high-tech and energy-efficient world of the
near future. The Company's structural strength is founded on the exceptionally
qualified officers and Board, and on a working relationship with the Pacific
Opportunity Capital group of companies. Pacific Opportunity Capital provides
the business-administration, financial and corporate-governance support
necessary to meet the new Canadian provincial securities commissions'
disclosure and governance requirements. This combination of multiple
investment opportunities and a complete range of management abilities set Rare
Element Resources apart from most junior-resource companies.
The exploration and development of the Bear Lodge deposit is the
Company's primary focus as we work toward our goal of playing a significant
role in the rare-earth-element markets. This property is an exceptional
example of a rare-earth-rich carbonatite. Previous, relatively shallow
exploration has outlined good grades of rare-earth-element mineralization,
which is open along strike and at depth. It is our intent to complete the
exploration, define resources and reserves and, if warranted, develop
facilities to exploit the deposit.
Rare Element Resources began this advanced stage of the Bear Lodge
exploration in late 2004. Two drill holes targeted previously known
rare-earth-carbonatite dikes. These holes were successful in intersecting good
grades of rare-earth mineralization and in confirming previous data. A third
hole unsuccessfully tested one interpretation of data that appears to predict
a larger carbonatite intrusion; however, data from this hole will be helpful
in further evaluating this and other targets in the area.
Core samples taken during the 2004 drilling program were sent to a
metallurgical laboratory in Tucson, Arizona, where the first metallurgical
tests are now underway to determine the optimal recoveries of the various
contained rare-earth elements.
Plans for the 2005 drilling program are complete and work on the ground
will begin in early autumn. I intend to meet with project geologist Jim Clark
on the property during August, for a final review of the plans. Drilling will
again target the suspected deep carbonatite body and it will further define
past drilling results. The confirmation of past drilling results will continue
to be a major part of our advanced exploration program. It is imperative that,
in order to be of value in resource calculations, all previous work be
confirmed using prescribed techniques that comply with National Instrument
43-101 (the protocol, required since 2000 by the Canadian provincial
securities commissions, for reporting and disclosure of mineral resources).
Results will be reported as soon as they become available.
In addition to focusing on the Bear Lodge Project, Rare Element Resources
continues to examine the high-tech-commodities industry for opportunities to
participate in the growing markets for rare-earth elements and other strategic
metals. The Company may acquire additional mineral properties or join in
ventures that develop other properties or aspects of these metals' markets.
The first few weeks of a new presidency are an exciting challenge. For
the president, they're a time to learn about new people, new projects and new
corporate systems and goals. For the company, they're a time to re-examine and
reorganize goals, projects and resources.
I welcome the new challenges and, although I've been at the president's
desk for only a short time, I'm well on the way to meeting them; thanks to
some great advantages. The Rare Element Resources' shareholders with whom I've
spoken are very supportive and firmly committed to the Company's goals. The
Board of Directors has broad experience in the guidance of mining companies
and this active Board will contribute significantly to Company management. CFO
Mark Brown, who is practically and personally involved in day-to-day company
business, is a highly qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) with exceptional
experience in the evolving world of corporate governance. Dr Jim Clark, our
consultant in charge of exploration at the Bear Lodge Rare-Earth-Element
Project and a specialist in rare-earth-element geology, is my personal guide
through the details of our project.
My long-term interest in the geology and mineralogy of carbonatite
deposits, such as the Bear Lodge deposit, is an additional advantage. I
visited the Bear Lodge property both as a student and as a professor and I
believe that this property has great potential. I look forward to being
intimately involved in its exploration and development.
Thanks to a solid corporate structure, professional colleagues, a
promising property and the growing opportunities of the high-tech, motive
power and energy industries, a great foundation is already in place from which
I and the Company can tackle the long-term challenges of creating a successful
Rare Element Resources.
As I assume the challenges of the presidency - the common link among the
technical, financial, administrative and public-relations branches of the
Company - my main job is to communicate. I also must translate and communicate
information to the financial world of investors, analysts, brokers and
newsletter writers. I intend to revitalize and expand the Company's
public-relations efforts to make sure our story is presented properly to the
investing public. I also want to communicate directly with as many
shareholders and potential investors as is possible. Please e-mail or call me
whenever you have a question or a comment. I look forward to speaking with
you.
ON BEHALF OF THE BOARD
William H Bird, PhD, PGeo
President & CEO
