OTTAWA, ONTARIO, Jan. 19, 2010 (Marketwire) -- The Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Labour, today announced the appointment of Ms. Leslie Elizabeth Galway as Governor representing Newfoundland and Labrador to the Council of Governors of the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS), effective immediately.
"Ms. Galway has a great deal of experience in the field of occupational health and safety," said Minister Ambrose. "Her extensive experience and practical knowledge should prove to be an asset to the Centre."
Since January 2008, Ms. Galway has been the Chief Executive Officer of the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission (WHSCC) of Newfoundland and Labrador. She has also held various positions at the Department of Business for the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Newfoundland Ocean Industries Association, and the Board of Directors of Newfoundland Power Inc.
Ms. Galway has shown her commitment to occupational health and safety through her involvement with the Ministerial Advisory Council for Occupational Health and Safety for the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. In addition, she has served as the Head of Delegations with both the Association of Workers Compensation Boards of Canada and the Association of Workers Compensation Boards of Atlantic Canada.
