Claymore Investments congratulates Research Affiliates on being awarded a patent for their Fundamental Index(R) investment methodology
Dec. 4, 2009 (Canada NewsWire Group) --

TORONTO, Dec. 4 /CNW/ -- Claymore Investments, Inc., a leading provider of intelligent exchange-traded funds ("ETFs") in Canada, would like to congratulate Research Affiliates on receiving a patent for their groundbreaking Research Affiliates Fundamental Index(R) ("RAFI(R)") indexing methodology.

Claymore is proud to be partnered with Research Affiliates and firmly believes in the investment strategy behind The Fundamental Index(R). Claymore was an early adopter of The Fundamental Index(R) methodology and its founder, Rob Arnott's original published work seeking to improve upon traditional benchmark indexing. Claymore launched the first public product based on the RAFI(R) indexing methodology in the world, here in Canada in 2005.

"We are deeply gratified that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has decided that the Fundamental Index(R) methodology is an innovation worthy of a patent," said Robert Arnott, chairman and founder of Research Affiliates. "Fundamental Index(R) products have been a tremendous success. Over 20 licensed affiliates use the RAFI(R) concept to manage products that exceed $25 billion in assets under management, after less than five years from publication of our research." Mr. Arnott added, "above all else, we're pleased that the Fundamental Index(R) approach has produced results, on live assets, that are consistent with our research and have directly benefited investors all over the world."

The Fundamental Index(R), selects and weights securities using fundamental metrics of company size rather than market capitalization. The RAFI(R) methodology uses four measures of size to gauge the economic footprint of a company; cash flow, sales book, value, and dividends.

Claymore Investments currently has five ETFs trading on the TSX, which use the Fundamental Index(R) methodology:

CRQ Claymore Canadian Fundamental Index ETF
CLU Claymore US Fundamental Index ETF (C$ hedged)
CLU.C Claymore US Fundamental Index ETF (non-hedged)
CIE Claymore International Fundamental Index ETF
CJP Claymore Japan Fundamental Index ETF (C$ Hedged)

"We are very happy that Research Affiliates has been awarded this patent." said Som Seif, President and CEO, Claymore Investments. "Rob and his team's consistent hard work and dedication to bringing awareness to the issues with traditional capitalization weighted indexes and the development of the RAFI(R) strategy, has really been impressive, and we are proud to be partnered with Research Affiliates."

Claymore's flagship ETF, The Claymore Canadian Fundamental Index is listed in the top 1% in Morningstar's Canadian Equity Funds category (ranked No.6 of total 605 funds) as of October 31, 2009 and, had outperformed the benchmark S&P/TSX 60 Index by 1.10% per annum since inception as of October 31, 2009.

"The RAFI(R) methodology allows us to offer low cost, efficient and intelligent core equity ETFs that have ability to outperform the benchmark indexes. We are extremely pleased with the overall performance of our RAFI Fundamental Index(R) ETFs, which have outperformed their benchmarks since inception and are ranked as some of the top performing investment funds in Canada," said Mr. Seif.
